The below is Ray Anczelowicz’s assessment of the “Boro’s” Metro Classic Game 2009 team:
Jayvaughn Pinkston - ’10 Bishop Loughlin: Showed flashes of former-Lincoln star Lance Stephenson at times with a relentless attack at the rim. Had an up-and-down day from the outside.
Branden Frazier- ’10 Bishop Loughlin: Easily one of the top shooters in New York City. Has an amazingly quick catch-and-release jumper which makes it extremely tough to contest, especially in transition or off of screens.
Shaquille Stokes – ’11 Lincoln: Is on attack-mode throughout the entire game. Showed a nice off-the-dribble jumper several times over the course of the game. Ball-handling is superb.
Dave Coley – ’10 Thomas Jefferson (Committed to Stony Brook): A great example example of a NYC combo-guard. Has the ability to score from anywhere on the floor, but is still a defensive-minded guard.
Kadeem Jack - ’10 Rice: Has the body at 6’8″ to become an offensive monster, but the process is still coming along. His defensive-prowess is greatly effective and appreciated by teammates as he saves easy baskets by blocking shots with his free-flying arms.
Rhamel Brown - ’10 Telecommunications: Was very impressed with Brown with this being the first time watching him play. At around 6’6″, Brown is not the most athletic player floor, nor is he the most talented, but he simply gets the job done. He’s smooth on the floor and can finish with ease when in the paint.
Jeffrey Short – ’10 JFK: Along with Frazier, one of the top shooters in NYC. Can get the shot off in a fly and has a great step-back move to create seperation. Has the skill to finish in the paint with contact.
Naquan Pierce - ’10 JFK: Even at 5’8″, Pierce is an instant game-changer. His quick savvy moves are hard to miss. Can hit the open shot along with getting past his defender to sink the one-handed floater.
Maurice Barrow – ’10 Christ the King: One of the most impressive players to me over the past couple of outings (iS8 and Metro Classic). His offensive game has been risen to new heights. Has the ability now to take-over a game with ease.
Leroy Isler- ’10 Boys & Girls: The most versatile player on the floor. Can change direction and speeds with the best of them in the PSAL, and has a good offensive game to compiment his athleticism.
Ryan Rhoomes - ’10 Cardozo: Skills of a shooting guard and body of a slender power forward; makes for one heck of a wing player. Like Isler, his ability to change both direction and speeds is superb and extremely vital in his game.
Dwayne Brunson - ’10 Cardozo: Similar to Jack, Brunson uses his long, lanky arms to swat shots left and right. Has the ability to sky up for an ally-oop and runs the floor great for a big man.
