Playing on Mount Vernon’s home-court, the New Rochelle Huguenots came away with a come-from-behind victory on Monday evening.
Down seven at halftime, New Rochelle attempted to put up a fight in the 3rd quarter but Mount Vernon continued to run away with the game. The Knights were up by as many as 13 at one point in the period. Thanks to the steady play of New Ro senior point guard, Steve Whittingham, the away squad headed into the final quarter of play down 10.
Antoine Mason, the Huguenots main catalyst in the game, started the period off with a momentum-building 3-pointer to cut the deficit to seven, 58-51. Several minutes later and still down seven, Mason showed off his tremendous athleticism by throwing down a thunderous dunk and drawing the foul. Upon the play, the senior voiced his emotions, thoroughly bringing his teammates into the game.
New Rochelle was down four at this point in the ball-game and had all the momentum. Led by Mason, New Rochelle would pull away from the Knights of Mount Vernon for the win, 76-66.
