Led by Villanova-bound senior, Jayvaughn Pinkston, the Bishop Loughlin Lions are on a roll at this point in the season. It couldn’t have come at a more perfect time either.
Below are the top three teams in the CHSAA “AA-BQ” division along with who I believe is going to be on top at seasons end.
1. Bishop Loughlin: 13 – 4 overall (8-2)
2. Christ the King: 14-4 overall (7-2)
3. Holy Cross: 14-7 overall (6-3)
Who’s going to win it all?…
Bishop Loughlin – The Lions have six games remaining on their schedule. They face Xaverian (2/12) and Holy Cross (2/16) both at home to end their divisional play. I predict the dynamic duo of Pinkston and Branden Frazier to take care of the two division games the next two weeks at home. Aside from Xaverian and Cross, Loughlin will have to face New Jersey powers Trenton Catholic (2/14, Primetime Shootout) and St. Anthony (2/18, Home).
Christ the King - Along with the Brooklyn school, Christ the King also has six games left on their schedule. The Middle Village, Queens school will take on Archbisop Molloy at home followed by an away matchup between Holy Cross to complete their division schedule. Similar to Loughlin as well, CTK has two tough out-of-division games. King will be up against Half Hollow Hills West (Primetime) and St. Raymond in the next few weeks. The Lions will have no problem with getting revenge with Molloy and taking down Cross to end their season, while Hills West will give them a run for their money.
Holy Cross - The toughest of the three remaining schedules, Holy Cross has home-advantage against Xaverian, CTK and Bishop Loughlin. While they have one game outside the division, Cross will need to win all three games in “AA-BQ” to come out on top. After beating Rice in a upset victory, the Flushing, Queens school has been out of their funk the past few games. I believe the trend will continue as they end their season against divisional powers, CTK and Loughlin.
Final Prediction: Bishop Loughlin and Christ the King will finish at the top of the division with Loughlin taking the season crown.
Stay tuned for updates on Bishop Loughlin, Christ the King and Holy Cross as they come to the end of their regular season. Best of luck to all three schools.
