The below is Ray Anczelowicz’ assessment of the “Boro’s” Metro Classic Game 2009 team:
Chavaughn Lewis - ’11 St. Mary’s: A player of many intangibles, Lewis is a lean guard who has a great feel for the game and good enough ball-handling skills to run a team.
Jordan Allen - ’11 Bayshore: An extremely versatile player at 6’5″. Has the ability to do many things while on the court; including scoring inside/out and finishing with ease on a fast break.
Jamel Flash- ’10 West Hempstead: Easily one of the tallest players on the floor each time out, the 6’10″ center has good hands and runs the floor exceptionally well. His defense is solid around the paint.
Joey Charles- ’10 Uniondale – One of the most athletic players while on the floor. Charles has a great physical built that comes to his advantage with his combination of outside shooting and talent to drive to the basket with authority.
Lamard Herron- ’10 Westbury: I’ve seen Herron play several times and am impressed with his game mentality each outing. He may not be the most physically gifted player, but just like Rhamel Brown did for the Burb’s team, he got the job. At 6’4″, Herron is a big lead-guard who doesn’t let the game come to him, instead he takes control of the game.
Leon Taylor- ’10 South Shore: His quickness is impeccable and his ball-handling is superb. Has a good mid-range jumper that keeps defenders on their toes.
Jon Ward-Adams- ’10 Center Moriches: Ward-Adams was kept in the end of the close game for a reason; you can count on him to control the tempo of the game. His fast-break game is good and can hit the three when given room.
Jabarie Hinds - ’11 Mt. Vernon: Most impressive player in the game hands down. Showed he can score at will and get by any defender with a series of moves he makes look easy.
Dave Samuels - ’10 Blessed Sacrament: Has a good face-up game while outside of the paint area. Was a great low-post presence for the Burb’s team, both offensively and defensively.
Dustin Hougue - ’10 Lincoln (Yonkers) – Put on a dunking showcase in the game. His aggressiveness and high-motor is unmatched at most times which makes it extremely difficult to be guarded.
Brian Voelkel- ’10 Iona Prep: His offensive game was on target while he had trouble finding iron but was a vital part of his teams fast-break offense as he came down with rebound after rebound.
Jordan Bronner - ’10 Iona Prep: Just like Taylor, Bronner demonstrated his extreme burst of speed and quickness during the game. Showed his passing skills while dishing out some nice assists.
Antoine Mason – ’10 New Rochelle: Was a dunking machine throughout the game. Used his strong-build to his advantage while under the hoop during put-backs and rebounds.
PJ Torres – ’11 New Rochelle: Showed spurts of a straight up scorer. Has a good enough three-point jumper to keep his defenders on their heels in though situations.
