Darrell Ward is a 6 foot 6 wing player from White Plains, NY. While in high school, Ward was used as a center at White Plains High School. Because of this, his skill set was not on full display.

However, Ward is now attending Notre Dame Prep for a post grad year with the hopes of showing off his wing player skills to college coaches. “I see myself playing the small forward position in college because I’m good at slashing to the basket, and knocking down the open shot,” Ward said via text message earlier today. “I can definitely play at the mid-major level but I can also see myself playing in the major level of college basketball because I’m dedicated to the hard work that I know is in front of me.”
Ward has a good attitude and wants to become the best he can be. I played pick-up ball with him this summer for the first time and got to see what kind of competitor he is first hand. Although it was a meaningless pickup game, Ward took the game personally and competed the whole time.
Although he said he can play at the high-major level, there are things that he must work on in order to get looked at by that caliber of schools.
“I am a strong right handed driver, so I need to improve my left hand dribble and be able to finish as well,” Ward said. “I also need to increase my shooting range.”
Currently Ward is being recruited by “a lot of mid-major schools like Rider, Central Connecticut, and St. Peters… But I will continue to push for bigger and better schools. I definitely want to go to a school where I can jump right in and compete for playing time.”
But right now all the ND Prep prospect wants do is work and try to win at the Prep level.
“Our goals as a team are to develop team unity and to win a National Prep Championsip.”
If all goes well for the White Plains native, he will be competing for time on a Division I squad next year just like he wants to be.
